Dyn da oedd Dewi

Cytgan:
Dyn da oedd Dewi,
Dyn da oedd Dewi,
Dyn da oedd Dewi,
Dewi, Dewi Sant.

Fe anwyd Dewi bychan
    mewn bwthyn bach tô gwellt,
Ar ddydd ei enedigaeth
    roedd storom fawr a mellt,
Ar fwthyn Dewi'n unig
    fe wenodd heulwen braf,
A chynnes oedd y tywydd
    fel bore yn yr Haf.

Cytgan...

Pan aeth efe i'r ysgol
    yr oedd yn fachgen call,
Paulinus oedd ei athro
    ond aeth yr athro'n ddall;
Ei ddwylo rhoddodd Dewi
    ar lygaid yr hen ŵr,
A'i olwg a ddaeth iddo -
    wel, dyna wyrth yn siwr.

Cytgan...

Cyfarfod fu'n Llanddewi
    a'r dyrfa oedd yn fawr,
Ond nid oedd neb yn clywed,
    rhy wastad oedd y llawr;
Ond danfon gwnaed am Ddewi
    a daeth efe i'r fan,
A'r tir lle'r oedd e'n sefyll
    yn sydyn gododd lan.

Cytgan...

Fe grwydrodd ef trwy Gymru
    yn dweud am Iesu Grist,
A helpu rhai mewn angen
    a gwella'r claf a'r trist;
Ar fore Mawrth y cyntaf
    yn dawel hunodd ef,
'Rôl oes o wir wasanaeth
    aeth Dewi Sant i'r nef.

David was a good man

Chorus:
David was a good man,
David was a good man,
David was a good man,
David, Saint David.

Little David was born
    in a little thatched cottage,
On the day of his birth
    there was a heavy storm and lightning,
On David's cottage only
    the sun shone brightly,
and the weather was warm
    like a morning in the summer.

Chorus...

When he went to school
    he was a wise boy,
His teacher was Paulinus
    but the teacher went blind;
David placed his hands
    on the eyes of the old man,
And his sight came back to him -
    well, that was a certain miracle.

Chorus...

There was a meeting in St David's (City)
    and the crowds were large,
but nobody could hear,
    as the ground was too flat;
but David was sent for
    and he came to the place,
and the ground where he was standing
    suddenly rose up.

Chorus...

He wandered through Wales
    speaking of Jesus Christ,
And helping those in need
    and healing the sick and the poor;
On the morning of the first of March
    he quietly passed away
After a lifetime of true service
    Saint David went to heaven.

Amdanom

Fel siaradwr ail iaith gyda phlentyn bach, sylweddolais na wyddem y geiriau na’r tonau i’r hwiangerddi Cymraeg. Bu rhaid i mi eu ddysgu gair am air a nodyn wrth nodyn oddi wrth fy ngwraig amyneddgar, tra bod hi’n canu i'm merch fach. Rwy’n siwr nad wyf ar fy hun yn y sefyllfa yma, felly creuais i’r wefan yma i geisio helpu fy hun ac eraill.

I built this website because (as a second language Welsh speaker) I neither know the words nor the tunes to any Welsh language nursery rhymes, and am learning them slowly and painfully from my wonderful and patient wife as we sing them to my wonderful daughter. Thank you both for your patience with your tone deaf father / husband, and I hope this resource helps some others out there in my position.
