Anhysbys

Ton ton ton!

I have a grey cow with a white face,
yes always, grey with a white face,
I have a grey cow with a white face,
she went to the gate to lay [eggs?].
And the small hen is sitting on the calf,
yes always, sitting on the calf,
and the small hen sitting on the calf,
won’t go from my memory this year.

Chorus:
Ton ton ton duh-ree ton ton ton duh-ree,
ton ton ton duh-ree ton ton ton,
ton ton ton duh-ree ton ton ton duh-ree,
ton ton ton duh-ree ton ton ton.

Seven small sparrows,
yes, small sparrows,
seven small sparrows,
quarrelling and throwing plates.
And the owl and her crooked beak,
and the owl and her crooked beak,
and the owl and her crooked beak,
is laughing at them.

(Chorus)

I have a small red hare,
yes, a small red hare,
I have a small red hare,
and two bells with her ringing.
And two yellow stones are her burden,
two yellow stones are her burden,
two yellow stones are her burden,
beating Wales’ greyhounds.

(Chorus)

Amdanom

Fel siaradwr ail iaith gyda phlentyn bach, sylweddolais na wyddem y geiriau na’r tonau i’r hwiangerddi Cymraeg. Bu rhaid i mi eu ddysgu gair am air a nodyn wrth nodyn oddi wrth fy ngwraig amyneddgar, tra bod hi’n canu i'm merch fach. Rwy’n siwr nad wyf ar fy hun yn y sefyllfa yma, felly creuais i’r wefan yma i geisio helpu fy hun ac eraill.

I built this website because (as a second language Welsh speaker) I neither know the words nor the tunes to any Welsh language nursery rhymes, and am learning them slowly and painfully from my wonderful and patient wife as we sing them to my wonderful daughter. Thank you both for your patience with your tone deaf father / husband, and I hope this resource helps some others out there in my position.
